When chronic stress, loss or trauma leave a lingering imprint, words are not enough to resolve painful or confusing experiences,. Whereas touch is remarkably helpful at bringing balance back to the body-mind.  It communicates safety and calmness, helping to complete interrupted physiological processes that have gotten "stuck" because of shock, stress or hurt. This might can include numbness, contraction or bracing in the pelvic muscles, belly area or reproductive organs.

What happens in a session?

Sessions are psychotherapeutic and hands on. They incorporate womb massage, body work, yoga and somatic counselling. This therapy draws upon the wisdom of the knowing body; our body is intelligent to think, feel and respond.

A safe container between client and therapist is created. The session begins with a body scan and joining of awareness between therapist and client. Based on this observation, the session flows with the client giving consent and focus. Depending on what a client feels, key therapeutic zones in the head, chest, belly, pelvis, legs and feet are contacted. Ayurvedic oils, warm stones, blankets and gentle weights can be used. Touch can be through clothes or directly onto skin. Please note: there is no internal pelvic- vaginal massage . 

Gentle dialogue takes place throughout the session. I share my observations and support you to listen to your body. I encourage you to express your experience with curiosity and compassion. As you connect with yourself in this way, it becomes possible to re-pattern your body, to not hold the memory of pain and move through any tension or discomfort. It also allows you to feel your feelings without self-judgment or self- blame.  

Through a powerful combination of touch, movement and breath, messages are sent to your nervous system to feel nurtured and protected. The soft tissue and inner organs can release out of tight and constricted states. This enables lymph, blood and energy to flow. Any hardened or stagnant emotions dwelling in your body can be understood and dissolved. Layers of shame or fearfulness can be cleared. Through this gentle, patient process, new imprints of health, joy, and beauty are possible.  

This therapy can help with:

  • Post partum/post natal recovery and support for mothers (of any age)

This therapy helps a new mother return to her centre, integrate her transformation into motherhood and nourish her body. Post-partum recovery is so important, unfortunately. this time can be a very lonely and depleting. Tender touch helps re align the organs and relaxes the new mum so that tension does not block the healing process. It offsets post natal depression by clearing exhaustion and high stress hormones. This support can be restorative for mums that did not get a chance to rest enough in the early days/months/years. It allows any mum ( with children of any age)  to reconnect to herself and needs long after the early mothering phase, it is never too late to restore and honour oneself.   

  • Support after a pregnancy/baby loss (including IVF failure)

A pregnancy or baby loss feels catastrophic. It is more than a shock. it is a rupture of heart and soul. The healing process is a significant and emotionally charged journey. Regardless of what stage of your pregnancy you lost your baby,  you will be postpartum and you will need support. Tender care allows you to grieve and recover physically and emotionally.  Numbness, confusion and disconnection are common experiences after a loss. Some women feel unforgiving with themselves and angry at their wombs. The void of a loss gently begins to shift and fill with self- compassion. Physical balance, emotional steadiness and hope can be restored.

  • Post abortion recovery care

Even though abortion is a choice it is rarely straightforward. Opting for a clinical procedure is one thing, the emotional response to it is another. Some  women can experience post abortion stress syndrome where pain and feelings of grief, anger, or shame can linger for weeks or months after an abortion. For some women there can be a sense of relief but sadness. I offer help for women to process their feelings, find closure and peace in their hearts.

  • Reproductive and sexual wellbeing.

For some women there can be an awareness that stagnant, painful aspects linger or block their sexual wellbeing or fulfilment.
Womb Gaia therapy can help make sense of and relieve the psycho - somatic symptoms related to menstrual or hormone imbalances, perimenopause and menopause struggles, pelvic dysfunction, bladder, rectal or vaginal prolapse, painful intercourse, vaginismus, , PMT/ PMS/depression, digestive issues, IBS, recovery from STD's, sexual assault & sexual abuse.

  • Healing the mother wound & CPTSD

Attachment trauma can affect how you feel about yourself and experience your body. It is possible to reclaim those aspects of feminine expression that have been suppressed or shut out. Touch has proven particularly important in helping to repair unfulfilled preverbal needs. Gentle, supportive, and nurturing touch brings back hope to a body that did not experience enough care, attention or validation. 

How long does this therapy take?

Working with the body takes time and care, especially when trauma is involved. I understand that most clients seeking this therapy might have tried others and feel low on patience. However this therapy is not a quick fix.

After the initial consultation and depending on your individual circumstances, we can talk about the time needed for your care and recovery.  We will discuss commitment to a therapeutic journey which could be anything from 12 weeks to months. This type of holding differs from receiving regular massage or undergoing talk based therapy.
